We recognise that you are all working hard to provide your families and children with as many devices as you are able to from your own resources and those provided from the Department for Education. However we also recognise that in the current circumstances this may not be enough.
We want to help top up your current pool of devices to help fill that gap.
1. You get in touch and let us know what you need, both in term of types of devices and numbers.
2. Working with you, we prioritise the schools with the greatest need.
3. As devices become available we provide these to you, the schools.
4. The devices become your school's property and you are responsible for ensuring they are ready and safe to be used by your pupils for remote learning.
We wipe all data from the donated devices and essentially reset them to 'factory settings'. We then check everything is working and, if needed, upgrade some of the components so they perform well enough for remote learning.
The laptops are then loaded with a clean Windows or Mac operating system, an internet browser and maybe adobe acrobat reader. Tablets will be erased and reset.
That's it! Just like it was out of the box! (Just a bit older....)
We can provide you with laptops or tablets that have been donated by the individuals or businesses to Laptops 2 Kids. These devices will be distributed to Herefordshire schools based on priority needs.
However, if you have devices donated directly to yourselves, we may also help with wiping the data and refurbishing the device to ensure it is usable. These devices will be returned back to you!
The more people who know about the scheme the more devices or cash donations we can receive, and more children we can help.
To help you broadcast the scheme to your parents we have included a sample text at the bottom of the page that you could use in your newsletters!
We want to help ALL children in Herefordshire, but to do that we need schools to get in touch and tell us what you need!
Right now there are hundreds of children across Herefordshire without the technology needed to do their school work remotely. We believe that in these challenging times no child should be left behind just because they need to isolate or stay at home during the lockdown. This is a big issue in Herefordshire - but it can be fixed by us. Locally.
The devices we need are already here. There are thousands of old, unused laptops or tablets sitting on shelves or at the back of an office gathering dust. These are just what we need. And this is where we can all help.
We have brought together a small, enthusiastic team of local organisations and charities, supported by industry-leading technology companies, to provide the skills, expertise and capability to make this real. Local businesses. Local task force. Helping local schools.
We will ensure all of your personal or business data is securely erased. For free. And then make sure the devices go to the schools and on to the children who need them most. And you can be assured that your generous donation will go directly to helping the children in your local Herefordshire schools.
So how do you help? Please visit our website at www.laptops2kids.co.uk where you can contact us and find out more about how the donation process works. And if you are not able to donate, please support us by sharing information about the scheme with your family, friends and within your workplaces. The more people who know about this, the more children we can help.
