Laptops 2 Kids Herefordshire is an innovative scheme to recycle laptops donated by businesses and distribute to those most in need so that every child can have the ability to work remotely should they need to do so.
It is sad that we find ourselves in the position where, in such a technology-driven country, access to basic technology by some children remains an issue. So it is only right that we act to ensure those most in need across Herefordshire are not pushed even further behind on account of the growing ‘digital divide’ caused by the COVID pandemic.
Laptops 2 Kids was founded by Tim, a local Business Transformation Consultant. Having two young children of his own, he was acutely aware of the problems facing families and children in these exceptional times. After attending a Local Academy Board meeting for The Hereford Academy, Tim was moved by the technology issues which were still affecting the children, even after the government's intervention earlier in the year. He went away determined to use his professional experience to make a difference. But with no idea how he was going to do so.
Then one evening a few weeks later that all changed. Inspired by a short item on the BBC news a seed was sown. And the wheels set in motion. In just 10 days, driven by the passion to make a difference, Tim took the scheme from zero to launch, mobilising support and creating partnerships at pace. All whilst also doing his day job...
And so, following these 10 crazy days of intense work, Laptops 2 Kids was born. And the opportunity created to make a difference to the future of so many of Herefordshire's children.
